About FLAMM
Hi, I’m Luke Macqueen, and I am excited to introduce myself as the drum instructor here at FLAMM Academy.
I am a firm believer in sharing what I have learned about the craft I love. Since my first day behind a drum set, I have been hooked. The way the drums sounded, the physicality of it, and the way it made me feel are the same today as they were 21 years ago. I love it. Being able to make people move their bodies, feel the beat, and give them a chance to lose themselves in the rhythm keeps me playing.
A little about my musical background: I have been involved in music for over 20 years, beginning my journey with the drums at a young age. Age-old story of tapping on desks, chairs, or pots and pans until my parents relented and bought me my first drumset. I studied drums at Waratah School of Music in Katoomba NSW for 10 years where I honed my skills and deepened my understanding of various musical styles.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of performing with a variety of bands both here and overseas, including such names as Fraser Coast Orchestra, Neilly Rich, Quaint Butter, Sonic Syrup, James Bynes, Doug Edwards & the upper hand band, Rachel Brady, Waratah Drumcorps, Honey Percy and many more as well as participating in workshops, and collaborating with talented musicians across different genres. Additionally, I hold certifications from the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) for drums. I also hold a QLD Blue card, Yellow Card, and am fully insured.
Having been in the Wide Bay area for several years now, you may have seen me cruising around in my beloved VW Kombi “Bluey” with my partner Tori and daughter Ruby.
I’m excited to meet you and get started with your drumming journey.
